Dr. B.C. Roy Engineering College, Durgapur, popularly known as BCREC, was set up on 21st August, 2000, under the over all management of Dr. B.C. Roy Engineering College Society. Born of a vision of a group of Durgapur based philanthropic entrepreneurs, the institute is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, the architect of modern West Bengal and BCREC management is deeply committed to gradually build the college as one of the best seats of Engineering and Management Education in Eastern India with domestic and global requirements in view.

Dr. B.C. Roy Engineering College, Durgapur was affiliated to the University of Burdwan for the students admitted in 2000-01 session. But from 2001-2002 session onwards the college was affiliated to the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT). The college is approved by both All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) and Department of Higher Education, Govt. of West Bengal. All the courses offered conform to the latest requirements and syllabus is structured by MAKAUT. The medium of instruction and examination is ENGLISH. Duration of each course is for four academic years. Each academic year is from 1st July to 30th June and divided into two semesters. Besides academic activities in the college, the courses include visits to work sites and practical training in industries.

University Examinations are held at the end of each semester. 75% attendance in theory and practical classes is essential for eligibility to sit for examinations. Students will have to apply for appearing in examinations, both for regular and back subjects, after paying requisite fee. A student is not allowed to sit in an examination without valid admit card.

PLACEMENT

Despite knowing the fact well that arranging proper placement in today’s hard sell market is not an easy tusk, BCREC has deliberately kept Training & Placement as one of its three core-values. Efforts are on to expose our first batch of graduate engineers, passing out in mid June, 2004 to as many employers as possible and results are encouraging. Quite a few of our students have hit the opportunity even in blue chief companies.
