Commencement of Classes
1. Centralized Online Counselling (Primary Counselling – For Most Courses) This is the main and most important counselling process conducted by IPU. It is completely online and applicable to BBA, BCA, MBA, MCA, B.Tech, and M.Tech. In this process, students register for counselling, fill and float/ lock their choices of colleges and programs, and seats are allotted based on entrance exam rank, category, and availability of seats. After seat allotment, students must accept the seat, pay the required fees, and report to the allotted institute for document verification and final admission. This counselling ensures transparency, merit-based selection, and centralized control.
2. CUET-Based Counselling For programs like BBA, BCA, MBA, B.Tech and MCA, IPU conducts counselling based on CUET scores. Students must appear in CUET, qualify with the required score, and then participate in IPU’s centralized counselling portal. CUET rank plays a crucial role in determining seat allotment during counselling rounds. This counselling allows students from across India to compete on a common national platform.
3. JEE Main–Based Counselling (For B.Tech Programs) For B.Tech courses, counselling is conducted using JEE Main ranks. Students apply through IPU counselling, and seat allotment is done based on JEE Main All India Rank, reservation category, and preferences filled. Multiple rounds are conducted including Round 1, Round 2, and subsequent rounds if seats remain vacant. This counselling follows national-level engineering admission standards.
4. GATE-Based Counselling (For M.Tech Programs) For M.Tech admissions, IPU conducts counselling primarily based on GATE scores. Candidates with valid GATE scores are given preference. If seats remain vacant, IPU may conduct additional rounds or institute-level counselling for eligible candidates as per university norms. This counselling ensures admission of technically competent and research-oriented students.
5. Spot Counselling Spot counselling is conducted after completion of all regular counselling rounds, only if seats remain vacant. It may be conducted online or offline, depending on IPU notifications. Admission in spot counselling is done strictly on merit and availability, and students must be physically present or registered online as instructed. Spot counselling is especially useful for students who:
● Missed earlier counselling rounds
● Did not get a seat earlier
● Want to upgrade to another college or course
6. Internal Sliding / Upgradation Counselling This counselling is meant for students already admitted to an IPU-affiliated institute. If better options become available, students can upgrade their allotted seat to a higherpreference college or program without losing their current seat. This process usually occurs between counselling rounds. It helps students achieve better institutional or course preferences.
7. Institute-Level Counselling (If Applicable) In rare cases where seats remain vacant even after spot counselling, IPU may allow individual colleges to conduct institute-level counselling with prior university approval. Admissions are still done according to IPU eligibility norms and merit rules.
